ESL Coordinator – Adult Education

Job Type: Ministerial 

Reports to: Manager of Adult Education 

 

Position Description 

This full-time, benefited position supports the English as a Second Language (ESL) students of the Adult Education program. The position will communicate the purpose of the program, set and reach departmental goals, and advise and guide the prospective and active ESL students of the program. 

Inspired by Christ’s merciful love, the purpose of the St. Katherine Drexel Adult Education Program is to provide a safe, compassionate, and understanding environment for students to gain the knowledge and skills needed to go out into the world and contribute in a meaningful way. 

 

Ministerial 

  • As a ministerial representative of CCEOK, it is expected that both professional and social behavior be aligned with the ethical and moral standards of the Catholic Church  
  • Pray daily for the needs of the poor; opportunities include personal prayer, daily Mass, and adoration  
  • Willingness to learn how to articulate Catholic teaching with a commitment to its application in the job function  
  • Execute duties in a Christ-like manner with love and compassion following the values and principles of the program, Catholic Charities and Catholic Social Teaching  

 

Leadership 

  • Continually assess the needs of the ESL program and bring suggestions to the program manager  
  • Manage inventory of educational materials, tools, and resources 
  • Provide program manager with student data when requested 
  • Comply with policies and procedures that create a safe and secure environment 
  • Be an advocate for ESL students when discussing program decisions with the education team 
  • Assist volunteer coordinator in volunteer training pertaining to ESL classes 
  • Serve as a substitute teacher when necessary 

 

Student Support 

  • Guide ESL students in identifying and fulfilling their goals 
  • Manage ESL enrollment sessions with the help of the education team 
  • Provide test results to support staff to ensure they are recorded in LACES 
  • Ensure students are placed in the correct class  
  • Monitor attendance and intervene when necessary 
  • Review student performance with both teachers and students throughout the term 
  • Determine whether a student repeats or advances at the end of each term 
  • Assist in conflict resolution when problems arise 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management 

 

Budget Management/Data Collection 

  • Maintain student data and provide information to program manager when requested 
  • Be cognizant of the program budget and be responsible in expense requests 
  • Submit all receipts using correct financial procedures to the program manager within 24 hours  

 

Qualifications 

  • Fluency in both Spanish and English (reading, writing and speaking) is required 
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (Experience in lieu of degree may be considered) 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Intermediate to advanced computer proficiency in MS Office Suite 
  • Experience managing people
