Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator – Emergency Assistance

Job Type:      Ministerial 

Status:           Hourly, Non-Exempt, Full Time 

Reports to:   Director of Volunteer Engagement  

 

Position Description 

This full-time, benefited position will be responsible for navigating resources in the community to assist Emergency Assistance and Case Management services to better serve their clients. As a part of a case management team, they will be cross-trained and able to ‘deploy’ to assist in various departments around campus as the need arises. The duties include community engagement, recruiting new volunteers for EA and CMS programs and supporting staff. This position will report to the Director of Volunteer Engagement for 4-6 months, then transition to report to the Director of Emergency Services.  

The purpose of the Emergency Assistance program is to support and assist households to meet their basic needs, gain stability and achieve their full potential. 

Ministerial 

  • As a ministerial representative of CCEOK, it is expected that both professional and social behavior be aligned with the ethical and moral standards of the Catholic Church 
  • Pray daily for the needs of the poor; opportunities include personal prayer, daily Mass, and/or adoration 
  • Willingness to learn how to articulate Catholic teaching with a commitment to its application in the job function 
  • Execute duties in a Christ-like manner with love and compassion following the values and principles of the program, Catholic Charities and Catholic Social Teaching 

 

Leadership 

  • Motivate, lead and inspire employees and volunteers to accomplish the program’s vision and goals  
  • Assist and maintain good working relationships with community agencies, faith communities and service organizations seeking valuable resources for case managers and promoting programs. 
  • Seek out ongoing training opportunities for staff growth. 

 

Key Duties 

  • Work with the volunteer office to maintain good practice with volunteers
  • Assessing volunteer and intern needs in the program
  • Recruit, engage, coordinate, manage and track activities of volunteers and interns
  • Work with the director to plan and maintain a calendar for outreach events
  • Coordinate meetings and tours of other community agencies and seeking new resources to support programs
  • Attend weekly team meetings and trainings 
  • Assist case managers with referral options to link clients to other services
  • Identify, research, and analyze current and potential community initiatives  
  • Develop and implement strategies to engage partners in activities that promote our mission and goals 
  • Establish and maintain relationships with public and private organizations, non-profits, and local community partners 
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure that initiatives are properly represented and communicated across all channels. 
  • Monitor the progress of initiatives and report findings to management 
  • Evaluate and manage the storage of donations. 
  • Identify training opportunities to improve case management skills 
  • Train to backfill case management positions as the need arises 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the director

 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, public relations, communications or two years of experience in related field 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Detail-oriented, organized and able to prioritize work 
  • Knowledge of community engagement tools and techniques 
  • Proficient in Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Office365  
  • Ability to think creatively and develop innovative solutions. 
  • Strong organizational skills 
  • Commitment to the mission and vision of Catholic Charities and diversity in the workplace 
  • Professional and positive approach 

 

Attributes 

  • Consistent, professional dress and manner  
  • Good time management skills  
  • Hands-on experience with office equipment (e.g. fax machines and printers)  
  • Ability to be resourceful and proactive when issues arise 
  • Team player, and able to work on own initiative 
  • Bi-lingual Spanish and English preferred 
  • Self-motivated and self-starter
