Position Description
This full-time position includes being responsible for assisting the dentists and hygienists with patient care and aiding in the operational coordination of the St. Teresa of Calcutta Dental Center.
As a ministerial representative of CCEOK, it is expected that both professional and social behavior be aligned with the ethical and moral standards of the Catholic Church.
Key Tasks
- Pray daily for the needs of the poor; opportunities include personal prayer, daily Mass, and/or adoration
- Timely opening and closing of the clinic in conjunction with the other employees
- Assure that Dentrix dental records (or charts) are ready for treatment the following day
- Assure that Dentrix chart is ready for the dental provider in the operatory
- Have treatment trays ready for patient treatment and extraction clinic
- Clean and maintain operatories, sinks, and other work areas
- Disinfect treatment areas, sterilize instruments, monitor weekly spore testing and maintain sterilization log, maintain sterilization equipment, etc.
- Maintain stock in all operatories
- Coordinate waste disposal, and coordinate maintenance and repair of dental equipment including the scheduling of service calls
- Assist dentists, hygienists, and assistants during patient care, as needed, both during the day and Tuesday evenings
- Lab duties as requested by supervising dentist, including pouring models, preparing cases to send to the dental lab, and keeping the clinic lab tidy
- In conjunction with other assistants, maintain dental materials inventory noting low stock and needed items with the lead assistant for order with the dental supply representative
- Maintain and track laboratory invoices and submissions for payment
- Keep track of work hours and schedule work appropriately
- Schedule patients’ return appointments and confirm patients for treatment in the clinic, as needed
- As needed, answer the phone and return or relay voice messages
Key Skills
- Willingness to learn how to articulate Catholic teaching with a commitment to its application in the job function
- Dental background with experience as a chair-side assistant
- Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and responsibilities and meet deadlines
- Ability to quickly learn and competently utilize Dentrix, digital radiography technology, etc.
