Position Description 

This full-time benefited position provides high-quality legal support to staff attorneys and DOJ Accredited Representatives in their legal representation of CCEOK clients. This position will help prepare applications, petitions, briefs, motions, and other legal documents for submission to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Department of State, Executive Office of Immigration Review (EOIR) and Board of Immigration Appeals. 

The Immigration Legal Services program is called to bring dignity, justice and hope to the immigrant among us by providing direct legal services in immigration matters to low-income clients in Eastern Oklahoma so that immigrants can fully engage in and contribute to our community.  

Ministerial 

  • As a ministerial representative of CCEOK, it is expected that both professional and social behavior be aligned with the ethical and moral standards of the Catholic Church 
  • Pray daily for the needs of the poor; opportunities include personal prayer, daily Mass, and/or adoration 
  • Willingness to learn how to articulate Catholic teaching with a commitment to its application in the job function 
  • Build a common culture of ministry within the program 

Leadership 

  • Take ownership of CCEOK’s overall vision and understand your vital role in helping to accomplish the program’s mission, strategy and goals 
  • Enthusiastically engage in peer case file review and participate in building a collective learning environment that fosters curiosity, personal and professional growth, and a commitment to excellence 
  • Serve as a positive example and peer mentor to colleagues and volunteers within the program and always strive to be the consummate team player 

Immigration Legal Assistance Support 

  • Participate in relevant training to gain competence in legal processes 
  • Learn and follow program case management procedures 
  • Work collaboratively with staff attorneys and DOJ Reps on assigned cases 
  • Meet with clients to collect information for legal applications and petitions 
  • Gather and organize evidence and documents relevant to CCEOK clients’ immigration cases  
  • Draft and proofread correspondence and legal documents for legal representative review 
  • Research statutes, case law, memorandum and regulations relevant to specific case issues 
  • Communicate with clients regarding case updates, notices, and other communication at attorney’s direction 
  • Receive and implement staff attorney and DOJ Accredited Rep review and feedback on work products 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. 

Qualifications 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, associate or higher degree preferred 
  • Proficient in Spanish and English (reading, writing and speaking) required 
  • Experience working in a legal environment and/or other relevant experience working with immigrants and/or vulnerable populations preferred 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong attention to detail and good problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and ensure all deadlines are met 
  • Willingness to learn new things and grow outside of comfort zone  
  • Ability to work well independently and within a team 
  • Competence in communicating and interacting with others of diverse cultural, geographic, and economic backgrounds in a professional and compassionate manner, including interacting with individuals experiencing substantial levels of emotional, physical, financial or other hardship 
  • Computer proficiency including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Office 365
