Position Description

This full-time, benefited position will support the immigration attorneys in the various aspects of client immigration cases.

As a ministerial representative of CCEOK it is expected that both professional and social behavior be aligned with the ethical and moral standards of the Catholic Church.

Key Tasks

  • Pray daily for the needs of the poor; opportunities include personal prayer, daily Mass, and/or adoration
  • Collect, examine, and organize evidence for attorney review and case preparation
  • Draft and proofread correspondence and legal documents for attorney review
  • Manage, organize, and maintain documents in paper and electronic filing systems
  • Provide general administrative assistance, such as preparing applications for submission
  • Update calendar with filing deadlines and reminder notices
  • Communicate with clients regarding case updates, notices, and other communication at attorney’s direction
  • Assist with special projects as assigned
  • Participate in relevant trainings
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Comply with policies and procedures that create a safe and secure environment, aligned with the standards of the Child and Youth Protection Charter

Education & Training

  • Associate's degree or higher preferred
  • Experience working in a legal environment and/or other relevant experience working with immigrants and/or vulnerable populations preferred

 

Key Skills

  • Proficient in Spanish and English (reading, writing and speaking)
  • Competence in communicating and interacting with others of diverse cultural, geographic and economic backgrounds in a professional and compassionate manner, including interacting with individuals experiencing substantial levels of emotional, physical, financial or other hardship
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, accuracy and attention to detail
  • Proven organizational skills including ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, meet deadlines and produce high-quality results quickly
  • Ability to work well independently and within a team
  • Ability to use basic Microsoft Office programs and online database software
