Position Description
This full-time benefited dentist is responsible for providing high-quality dental care and preventative services and education in a community health center setting and provide leadership to the dental staff, when appropriate. This role requires a blend of leadership and clinical knowledge to support the missions and goals of Catholic Charities of Eastern Oklahoma and Smiles of Faith.
The Dental Care program is called to provide excellent, comprehensive dental care in a kind, compassionate setting to low-income patients in Eastern Oklahoma, to eliminate pain and improve overall health.

- As a ministerial representative of SOF and CC, it is expected that both professional and social behavior be aligned with the ethical and moral standards of the Church
- Care for God’s creation by prioritizing the needs of the poor, standing with them in solidarity, respecting human dignity, and striving for common good
Position Responsibilities
- Perform and maintain quality clinical and radiographic evaluations, including patient’s medical history to diagnose and treat diseases of the oral cavity
- Identify patient’s chief complaint and address contraindications pertaining to treatment
- Follow treatment plans that include appropriate preventative and restorative therapy
- Promote oral health by providing educational information on all phases of preventative and restorative dentistry and oral hygiene
- Review and follow all CC and SOF dental clinic protocols, policies, and procedures

- Ability to work with a variety of individuals and organizations in an effective manner
- Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of the principles and practice of modern dentistry as related to public health organizations and community health programs, as well as current social and economic problems pertaining to public health and their impact on primary health care.
- Skill in providing excellent customer service and support, organizing and prioritizing workload, and meeting deadlines
- Skill in administering, maintaining, and expanding a program of primary and preventative care in a community healthcare setting
- Treatment should include but not be limited to the following: elimination of pain and infection, caries removal, restorative, periodontics, endodontics, prosthodontics, & oral surgery
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally with persons from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, religious, education, racial, ethnic, and professional backgrounds
- Ability to work effectively with managers, co-workers, members of the public, and professional groups
- Ability to communicate effectively, clearly, and concisely with others, both verbally and in writing, and consistently demonstrate proactive/positive customer service attitude. Consistently maintain ethical behavior exemplary of quality public service and fair standards, inclusively among all employees and members of the public
- Ability to work as an effective team member, function independently, exercise sound judgment and initiative, be flexible to shift priorities, maintain confidentially, establish and maintain effective interpersonal work relationships, effectively assist providers, work toward goals and objectives of draft priorities
- Provide education and outreach in the community, as needed
- Ability to follow CC and SOF Clinic practice guidelines
- Ability to receive constructive feedback including evaluation of provider’s productivity and practice attributes.

Qualifications
- DDS or DMD with an active, unrestricted dental license to practice in the state of Oklahoma
- Work experience of 3 years preferred, and public health experience preferred, but not required
- Fluency in English (reading, writing, and speaking), bilingual in Spanish preferred
- Current immunization record
- Current OBNDD and DEA registration
Special Requirements
- Ability to adapt to changing clinical circumstances including but not limited to traveling to different clinical sites, as required, in addition to practicing dentistry in a mobile or portable environment if fixed clinical space becomes unavailable at any time.
Typical Physical Requirements
- Prolonged sitting or standing may be required. Those physical movements and the degree of mobility normally associated with the practice of primary care dentistry will be performed on a repetitive basis.
- Work under stressful conditions, as well as irregular hours, may be required.
- Exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, radiation and other conditions common to a clinical environment may routinely be encountered.
