Director – Immigration Legal Services

Position Description

This full-time, benefited position provides overall administrative management for the Immigration Legal Services program. The position will communicate the mission of the program, set and reach departmental goals, and supervise the Attorneys, DOJ Accredited Representatives, and support staff.

The Immigration Legal Services program brings dignity, justice and hope to the immigrant among us by providing direct legal services in immigration matters to low-income clients in Eastern Oklahoma, so that immigrants can fully engage in and contribute to our community.

MINISTERIAL

  • As a ministerial representative of CCEOK, both professional and personal conduct must align with the ethical and moral standards of the Catholic Church
  • Pray daily for the needs of the poor through personal prayer, daily Mass, and/or adoration
  • Be willing to learn and apply Catholic teaching in your role
  • Help foster a shared culture of ministry across program operations and management

 

LEADERSHIP

  • Take ownership of CCEOK’s overall vision and understand your vital role in helping to accomplish the program’s mission, strategy, and goals
  • Create a collaborative learning environment that nurtures curiosity, fosters personal and professional growth, and inspires a commitment to excellence
  • Serve as a positive example and mentor to colleagues and volunteers within the program, motivating, leading, and inspiring them to accomplish the program’s goals

 

MANAGEMENT

  • Supervise all legal staff; Responsible for hiring and training employees, assigning work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees and problem resolution
  • Facilitate peer case file review
  • Regularly update the case management procedures to ensure high-quality and efficient administration of legal services
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the ILS program
  • Assess the need for immigration legal services in Eastern Oklahoma and adjust the program activities to meet the needs of those we serve
  • Implement the strategic plan within the program
  • Maintain status, compliance and membership in AILA, CLINIC, OK Bar Association, and DOJ Recognition and Accreditation

 

BUDGET MANAGEMENT AND FUND SOURCING

  • Create and manage program budget and be responsible for monitoring funding sources and expenses
  • Oversee the collection of receipts and financial procedures
  • Work collaboratively with CCEOK Development staff to apply for grants and submit reports on grant utilization and progress

 

IMMIGRATION LEGAL ASSISTANCE

  • Oversee case selection for consultations and post-consult debriefs, provide feedback as needed, and track and monitor caseloads for each legal representative
  • Maintain a minimal caseload that allows for keeping apprised of immigration law and to provide adequate supervision
  • Stay up to date with changes in immigration law and other immigration related developments, and ensure staff members understand these changes
  • In collaboration with the Senior Director, assure program success by defining and measuring outcomes for non-grant-funded program activity

 

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

  • Provide education and outreach in the immigrant community
  • Represent the program at community meetings
  • Create and maintain partnerships with community organizations for capacity-building and funding opportunities
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION

  • J.D. and admittance to the Bar of any state required, Oklahoma Bar preferred; or DOJ Accredited Representative
  • Work experience in the immigration legal field, or other legal field (3-5 years)
  • Proficient in Spanish and English (reading, writing and speaking) preferred
  • Experience working in a legal environment and/or other relevant experience working with immigrants and/or vulnerable populations preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and good problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and ensure all deadlines are met
  • Willingness to learn new things and grow outside of comfort zone
  • Ability to work well independently and within a team
  • Competence in communicating and interacting with others of diverse cultural, geographic, and economic backgrounds professionally and compassionately, including interacting with individuals experiencing substantial levels of emotional, physical, financial, or other hardship
  • Computer proficiency including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Office 365
