Reports to: Director of Immigration Legal Services
Position Description
This full-time benefited position provides high-quality legal services to low-income individuals in assessing their eligibility for immigration benefits and then helping them apply for those benefits. This position will prepare cases for submission and represent clients before the United States Citizenship and Immigrations Services (USCIS), Department of State (DOS), Executive Office of Immigration Review (EOIR) and Board of Immigration Appeals.
The Immigration Legal Services program brings dignity, justice and hope to the immigrant among us by providing direct legal services in immigration matters to low-income clients in Eastern Oklahoma, so that immigrants can fully engage in and contribute to our community.
MINISTERIAL
- As a ministerial representative of CCEOK, both professional and personal conduct must align with the ethical and moral standards of the Catholic Church
- Pray daily for the needs of the poor through personal prayer, daily Mass, and/or adoration

IMMIGRATION LEGAL ASSISTANCE
- Interview and screen clients to assess eligibility for services, prepare applications, petitions, motions and supporting documentation for submission to USCIS, DOS, EOIR, BIA and federal court
- Inform clients of possible benefits under INA and accompanying regulations
- Provide direct representation to clients in all areas of immigration law and coordinate all aspects of the client’s case, including client communication, relevant research, drafting personal statements, preparing immigration forms, writing briefs, drafting court motions and orders, appearing with clients at USCIS interviews and court hearings, and advocacy with law enforcement and other agencies
- Stay up to date with changes in immigration law and other immigration related developments and engage in continuous learning to develop and deepen legal expertise
CASE MANAGEMENT
- Manage a caseload under the supervision of the Director
- Responsible for case management database maintenance, documentation and record keeping of client cases and other reporting requirements
- Maintain up-to-date and accurate case analysis notes, implement manager and peer feedback, promptly follow up with clients as needed, comply with all deadlines, and adhere to all case management procedures
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
- Work cooperatively with other agency staff, referral sources and community resources to obtain and coordinate services for clients
- Provide education and outreach in the immigrant community
- Participate in community events and immigration relief workshops
- Engage in community and stakeholder meetings
Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION
- J.D. and admittance to the Bar of any state required, Oklahoma Bar preferred
- Work experience in the immigration legal field, or other legal field (2-3 years)
- Proficiency in Spanish and English (reading, writing and speaking) required
- Experience working in a legal environment and/or other relevant experience working with immigrants and/or vulnerable populations preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and good problem-solving skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and ensure all deadlines are met.
- Willingness to learn new things and grow outside of the comfort zone
- Ability to work well independently and within a team
- Competence in communicating and interacting with others of diverse cultural, geographic, and economic backgrounds in a professional and compassionate manner, including interacting with individuals experiencing substantial levels of emotional, physical, financial, or other hardship
