GOOD SHEPHERD KITCHEN is a 12-week culinary training program to equip you with the tools to achieve your potential. 

Based out of The Market at Catholic Charities, you’ll learn the skills it takes to work in a kitchen while preparing nutritious meals for clients of The Market. 

Learn in-demand skills and earn your ServSafe Food Handlers Certification and Certificate of Completion to gain employment after graduation. 

Program Details

•  12-week program
•  9am - 2pm Monday - Thursday
•  Cohorts for 2024 are January 15 to April 4, May 6 to July 25, and September 9 to December 7
•  Students will be paid an hourly rate
•  Case management for additional support as needed
•  Job placement assistance upon graduation
 

What will you learn?

Our program teaches you culinary skills to help you succeed in a kitchen as well as life skills to empower you in your career and personal life.

•  Food safety and sanitation
•  Kitchen safety
•  Knife skills
•  Kitchen and restaurant structure
•  Understanding foods and flavors
•  Food preparation and cooking methods, including:
   •  dressings, stocks and sauces
   •  baking
•  Menu design and food costing
•  Nutrition basics
•  Customer service
•  Professionalism in the workplace
•  Resume building
•  Basic computer skills
•  Personal finance
•  Hear from local guest chefs and visit local kitchens

Who is this program for?

This program is for young adults age 18 and up looking to get a head start in a culinary career, specifically:

•  Basic academic skills – including understanding written language and elementary math
•  Able to lift up to 30 pounds
•  Able to stand for a period of time – including up to 2 hours in the kitchen
•  Able to pass a drug test and background check
•  Proficient in English language
