Position Description

This part-time (24 hours/week) position primarily provides support, guidance and counsel to families and individuals with short-term, urgent needs, especially those with limited skills and/or limited access to services. The case worker assesses each client’s situational needs and determines the best way to meet those needs, which may include providing direct assistance and/or serving as a liaison between the client and another agency. The case worker performs this work through the virtues of faith, hope, love, dignity and solidarity while maintaining the values of Catholic Social Teachings. Must be bilingual in Spanish and English.

As a ministerial representative of CCEOK, it is expected that both professional and social behavior be aligned with the ethical and moral standards of the Catholic Church.

Tasks

  • Pray daily for the needs of the poor; opportunities include personal prayer, daily Mass, and/or Adoration
  • Assist clients in recognizing and defining their own service needs, inform them of available services and help them access goods, services, financial benefits, ID’s, housing and other needs
  • Ensure client records are accurately, professionally and confidentially recorded and maintained
  • Answer incoming assistance requests, mostly via phone and email, although limited, in-person assistance may be required at times depending on the client’s situation
  • Stay apprised of the resources available from other agencies and organizations in the community and work cooperatively with other agency staff, referral sources and community resources to obtain and coordinate services for clients
  • Perform responsibilities within the parameters of program policies and procedures
  • Provide translations assistance for other Catholic Charities’ programs as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in social work or related direct human service field working with underserved populations preferred

Skills

  • Must be bilingual in Spanish and English
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, active listening and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to respectfully and compassionately serve those from diverse backgrounds who may be in distress and emotional
  • Ability to problem solve, prioritize and work in a somewhat stressful environment
  • Proficient in using Microsoft operating systems such as OneDrive, Microsoft 365, Word, Outlook, and Excel and able to learn other systems critical to job function
