Family Enrichment – Transitional Living

Position Description

This full-time, hourly, benefited position is responsible for implementing family enrichment programming at Madonna House and St. Elizabeth Lodge, including Ages and Stages Education (Parents as Teachers), Whole-Brain Child Studies, I Love You Rituals, and parenting classes. The Parenting educator supports families in the Transitional Living programs by fostering positive parent-child relationships, promoting healthy child development, and creating meaningful, growth-centered experiences. This role requires a flexible schedule, including some evening hours, to meet the needs of participating families.

The purpose of Catholic Charities’ Transitional Living program is to restore stability, purpose and hope in the lives of single mothers and their children.

Ministerial

  • As a ministerial representative of CCEOK, both professional and personal conduct must align with the ethical and moral standards of the Catholic Church
  • Pray daily for the needs of the poor through personal prayer, daily Mass, and/or adoration
  • Be willing to learn and apply Catholic teaching in your role
  • Help foster a shared culture of ministry across program operations and management

 

Leadership

  • Conduct one-on-one Ages and Stages educational sessions with resident mothers and alumni, following the Parents as Teachers model
  • Facilitate parenting classes grounded in the principles of I Love You Rituals, The Whole-Brain Child, The Yes Brain, and No-Drama Discipline
  • Plan and coordinate monthly Talking is Teaching events to promote parent-child engagement and early learning
  • Enhance the Transitional Living environment by integrating positive parenting education, materials, and resources
  • Regularly assess parent and child development using standardized tools such as ASQ-3, HFPI, and EPDS
  • Share evidence-based parenting resources and educational materials with families through BrightCourse and other digital platforms
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely case notes and records for each resident, ensuring proper data entry into the resident management system
  • Actively participate in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities
  • Provide crisis intervention, de-escalation, and debriefing in situations involving conflict, stress, or trauma
  • Participate in supervision focused on program responsibilities and residents’ progress
  • Comply with policies and procedures that create a safe and secure environment, aligned with the standards of the Child and Youth Protection Charter
  • Stay current with research, best practices, and tools for supporting families affected by trauma and addiction
  • Assist with hospitality duties, including answering calls, greeting visitors, and conducting tours of Madonna House and St. Elizabeth Lodge
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management

Qualifications/Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or similar required
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing programs
  • Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Strong relationship management and interpersonal abilities
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
  • Exhibits sound judgment, integrity, empathy, and professionalism, with a strong commitment to confidentiality
  • Effective decision-making and critical thinking abilities
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and creative
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
  • Positive, professional, and flexible attitude with a cheerful and friendly demeanor
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs, and to bend, stoop, sit, and stand for extended periods
