Resident Assistant – Transitional Living

Reports to: Manager of Transitional Living

Position Description

The Resident Assistant supports the overall daily operations of Madonna House and St. Elizabeth Lodge and assists residents and their families to ensure a safe, welcoming, and supportive living environment. This position plays a key role in fostering community, promoting resident well-being, and maintaining program standards.

The purpose of Catholic Charities’ Transitional Living program is to restore stability, purpose and hope in the lives of single mothers and their children.

Ministerial

  • As a ministerial representative of CCEOK, both professional and personal conduct must align with the ethical and moral standards of the Catholic Church
  • Pray daily for the needs of the poor through personal prayer, daily Mass, and/or adoration
  • Be willing to learn and apply Catholic teaching in your role
  • Help foster a shared culture of ministry across program operations and management

 

Leadership

  • Assist in the supportive implementation of individual treatment and service plans for residents
  • Foster positive relationship building among residents in a safe and respectful environment
  • Provide support to residents and team members during crises, following trauma-informed care principles
  • Implement evening and weekend recreational and social activities.
  • Maintain strong, positive, and professional relationships with residents, staff, and volunteers while maintaining appropriate boundaries
  • Uphold an emotionally and physically safe, trauma-informed working and living environment
  • Welcome and oversee various individual and group volunteers if needed, ensuring appropriate boundaries are maintained
  • Comply with and monitor adherence to the policies and procedures that create a safe and secure environment, aligned with the standards of Child and Youth Protection
  • Ensure confidentiality in all aspects of program operations, especially regarding resident information
  • Support the development of residents’ communication, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills
  • Answer incoming calls, provide information, and make referrals as needed.
  • Accurately document resident interactions, activities, and participation in program services
  • Assist with general cleaning of shared living areas and preparation of rooms/apartments for new residents
  • Participate in required and recommended training sessions and professional development opportunities
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management

 

Qualifications

  • Experience in residential, housing, or transitional living programs preferred
  • Strong relationship management and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to remain calm, objective, and professional in crises
  • Sensitive to the unique needs and experiences of women from diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and responsibilities effectively
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and web-based applications
  • Ability to maintain resident confidentiality
  • Detail-oriented
  • Positive, professional, and flexible approach to work
  • Physical ability to lift up to 30 pounds and perform other job-related tasks as required
